The Buckingham Branch Mechanical shop is based at Dillwyn Yard.  The mechanical shop maintains more than 50 trucks and high rails and an array of heavy mechanical equipment used by the track and structures department, the signal department, maintenance of way workers, rail inspectors and the information technology department.  Vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules are carefully followed to ensure safe operation and continued useful life.  These maintenance responsibilities also include periodic re-building of engines and other components and painting of vehicles and equipment.
