Buckingham Branch Railroad Officials Participate in Railroad Day in Congress

Buckingham Branch Railroad Visits Congress for Railroad Day 2016.  Dillwyn, VA, March 3, 2016.  Buckingham Branch Railroad officials met with Virginia Congressmen and Senators as part of Railroad Day 2016.  Lois Bryant Frank, BB Corporate Secretary, Kyle Frank, BB Transportation Supervisor, and Bill Hamilton, BB Director of Business Development, particpated in meetings with the offices of Senator Mark Warner, Senator Tim Kaine, and eight Virginia Congressmen as part of Railroad Day 2016, an annual event organized by the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) and the American Association of Railroads (AAR).  Representatives of the Buckingham Branch Railroad emphasized three primary issues in their Congressional meetings – preserve and extend the 45G short line railroad tax credit, oppose bigger and heavier trucks on U.S. highways, and preserve balanced regulation of America’s railroads.  Lois Frank has been attending the annual Railroad Day event for several years.  She considers Railroad Day to be an opportunity for all short line railroads that should not be missed.  “We get to to sit face-to-face with Members of Congress and their staff and have their undivided attention to discuss the issues that are most cricital to the short line railroad industry.” said Frank.  “ASLRRA and AAR do a great job of organizing the day to make sure that every minute counts.  Getting to as many as 10 meetings in one day can be challenging, but well worth the effort.”  Asked if she had any advice for other short line railroad representatives that might be considering participating in a future Railroad Day, Frank didn’t hesitate.  “Wear comfortable shoes and eat a good breakfast,” she said with a smile.
